Chocolate contentment

So here I am, all by myself on Easter Sunday. But I am not unhappy or even mopey. In fact, I am rather warm and content. Even though work has conspired to deprive me of sleep and company.

Instead of a traditional chocolate egg on Friday or Monday, I was presented with an egg hunt. All through yesterday and today, small bundles of chocolate and caramel were discovered in various places around the house. And every single time it make me giggle out loud. It isn't the chocolate itself that brings delight, but the how and the why it got there.

Hoorah!

The money taken by the fraudsters has been refunded. Yay!

It's that time of the work cycle...

and I'm on call again. Over Easter. Which will be nice. Meh. Still, there's not a lot going on apart from the clock change on Sunday.

While work was really quite good the last few weeks, as I've been doing mostly database and cps work (apart from the two interactive telly 24x7 rebrand jobs), today and yesterday were really quite rubbish. It isn't the work, it's people.

#6 - and on a different platform

...at around 12:00 today we threw the switch on the DSat rebrand. I'd done about 45% of the operational work, which was a lot more than for DCable (Telewest), so I reckon I can call this #6.

I think it's quite elegant now, I must say.

I speak too soon

Rage last night and this morning. Over filthy, inconsiderate, selfish pigs. People who brazenly throw rubbish on the street/train/tube/bus. There was one on the station this morning, drinking a can of Red Bull and smoking a cigarette and he just dropped the can on the ground when he was done. Bloke on the tube last night, with a big, straggly beard and really long fingernails but bright white socks and shoes, drinking a bottle of Oasis and reading a paper. When he was done with the bottle, he just dropped it on the seat next to him, and proceeded to discard the bits of the paper he didn't want as well. Filthy pigs.

Ch-ch-ch-chaaaanges

I seem to have less rage. Or is it that I have less time to feel the rage? In any case, I am damned busy these days.

Busy

Work work work work work. It all kicked off last week and is looking Busy for the foreseeable. Which is good really. I don't get bored, stressed and tired when I have stuff to do.

The down side is that I get stressed by documentation which is full of assumptions that the reader knows what's in the writer's mind and how the new stuff was written and works.

Bah.

Hoorah for medical science!

Curing type 1 diabetes using donor cells to the point where only occasional top-up insulin may be required: wow! Roll on this becoming widespread across the country.

Fraud

I regularly check the state of my bank accounts and credit cards just to be sure everything s going OK and things are in the right place/have been paid etc. I checked today to see how I'm doing a few days before pay day. I saw my credit card balance and boggled. I thought I had just paid off the (smallish) balance. And I had. But since then and before my next paper statement will be issued, someone had been using my credit card details. To the tune of a not insignificant amount, in suspicious ways (i.e. multiple transactions in the same day for the same round number), in a different country, buying things from shops I just wouldn't even look in never mind buy anything from.

Three phone calls later and my card is cancelled, I've shredded the card (oh god that's theraputic using that shredding machine for cards and floppies etc), I've got a new card coming at some point and I'll be getting the money back in a few weeks. However, I had to endure some pretty insulting questioning, being asked the same questions several times, with the implication that I had been stupid/negligent in some way. Yes, I know people are. But when I'm asked three times where I keep my card and whether I could prove/be sure of where it was on the days the transactions were made (which differ between my online banking and the dates I was quoted on the phone)... *sigh*

Relaunch #5

...it's almost like clockwork now. Still. It looks rather pretty and launched on Telewest first. Yah boo sucks to Sky!

Delayed gratification

I am currently waiting until next Thursday to order a new phone. If I do it before then, it'll cost me money. If I wait until next Thursday, it will be free. (*want toy*)

I'm Being Good(TM).

In other news, apparently I'm a financial genius (according to this test run by Egg), with a Financial IQ of 120 (that's the highest it goes). Try it out. It isn't hard at all. Apparently the average score is 56, which I think is pretty scary.

Tiresome travel

So I actually timed my journey in and out of work a few times recently. It is usually 1:20 to get in (at absolute best 1:10) and 1:30 (at absolute best 1:15) to get home. This is Not Good. Today was 1:45 to get in. How has it come to be acceptable to take that long for an 11 mile journey to and from work?
