Psion launched the Series 5mx, the successor to the Series 5 in June 1999.

The Series 5mx, touted as a shiny chrome boy-toy, looks a little disappointing in the flesh as it is neither shiny, nor chrome but a kind of greyish plastic. However, performance-wise, it really does the business. It seems to be quite a bit faster than the Series 5 which may be to do with the 100% increase in memory as well as the fact that the software has been tweaked and streamlined. Even though the Perl interpreter works like a dream on it, I don't think I'll be getting one just yet though as that nasty, plasticky case is a real put-off.
